ABSTRACT

This study deals with [30] cases of medial ligament rupture of the knee joint after trauma, [24] cases of them were reported for the final follow-up for [3] years, [22] cases of them were males while [8] cases were Females. All patients were admitted to the hospital and after careful general and local examination, plain x-Ray stress films were done to the affected knee joint. Pre-operative preparation followed by open repair of the injured medial ligament. Plaster of Paris was applied after operation above knee in flexion 30 degree for one and half months. This was followed by full programme of physiotherapy till we get the full range of knee flexion extension movements with good stability in the medial and lateral directions in the stress films of the plain x-Rays at the end of the period of the follow up. [22] cases healed without any complications and return to their usual work after a period from [2] to [5] months, [2] cases were complaining of pain and limitation of knee flexion movement from 30 degree to 40 degree, one of these [2] cases was an obese lady with O.A. of the knee and aged [50] years and the other case was O.A. of the knee with genu varum deformity and aged [55] years

ABSTRACT

[41] Cases of humeral shaft fractures were treated by internal fixation. [38] Cases of them were reported for the final end result with a period of follow up from [2] to [4] years with average [3] years, started from 1988 to 1922. The line of treatment was by operative internal fixation by plate and screws. [18] Cases of them were operative from the start while [20] cases after failure of conservative treatment. The indication of internal fixation from the start was in cases with multiple injures or in association with other fractures in the same limb or other limbs to facilitate nursing and to help early mobilization of the patient. [25] Cases of these series were males and [16] cases were females. The results were evaluated both clinically and radiologically, Sound union was found in [30] cases

ABSTRACT

[22] Patients with acute ruptures of the Achilles tendon were treated by immobilisation in a plaster cast for 12 week. [20] were followed up for a mean time of [40] months. [2] re-ruptures occurred shortly after the initial treatment. Most patients had no or only slight complaints, three had moderate and one severe, problems. The activity level dropped slightly from 5.3 to 5.03, [Tegner score]. The results are satisfactory with a low complication rate. The method is an alternative to operative repair, especially in patients declining operation and in those in whom operation or anaesthesia is contraindicated

ABSTRACT

A retrospective clinical study of 20 patients treated by arthrolysis for elbow stiffness is presented. These patients had sustained previous injury, which was a simple fracture in 44%. The average age at operation was 31 years with a range from 6 to 57 years. Follow up for a minimum of one year and an average of four years, showed an increase of motion from a preoperative average of 45 degrees to a postoperative average of 92 degrees with few complications and only three unsatisfactory results. This analysis has allowed conclusions concerning the technique and indications for operation
